The Hobie Sprint Series website is now up and running with frequent updates on results and all the latest news throughout the event.

A little under 2 weeks until the series kicks off at Nedlands Yacht Club.

PRIZE GIVING

No racing on final day

Results remained the same as the wind failed to come at all.

A big congrats to Tim and Cecilia for showing us all up by sailing so consistently from start to finish.

Emma and I are extremely happy with the 5th place result. This was to be our last regatta in Europe before we head back to Australia for the start of the summer sailing season. Its nice to finish off with a good result.

We would sincerely like to thank everyone who has followed us throughout our journey over the past 4 months. Your support from all aspects has been a blessing to the both of us. This European campaign is one big adventure that we will keep firm in our memories.

5th overall coming into final day

 

 

A 4th,10th,2nd and a BFD yesterday ( Black Flag Disqualification ) was enough to progress us up to 5th overall with one day left. Another thermal sea breeze greeted us again yesterday and reached 18knots by the end of the day.

The thunder and rain came late yesterday and still around this morning but with no wind. We will be lucky to get a race in today due to a 13:00 start and 16:00 cut off time.

Tim and Cecilia are sailing brilliantly and have all but wrapped up the championship.

Emma and I are hoping to stay in the top 5 as there are 4 or 5 boats right on our heels.

 LATEST RESULTS

8th overall after 8 races

14-18 knots of breeze by the end of the afternoon and again we had 4 races for the day.

We couldn’t get off the start line yesterday. Very tricky indeed. Right side of the course was favoured to buggery. It was just a matter of getting a clean start at the starboard end of the line, finding your lane, tacking and staying in clean air.

Sounds easy but very hard to achieve when 63 other boats have the same idea.

Tim and Cecilia are sailing very consistently and will take some beating from now in.

4 Races in Gold Fleet yesterday

The much anticipated thermal wind that was to be expected here in Lake Como finally showed its face for the first time yesterday. A 12-14 wind filled the race course giving us the chance to complete all 4 schedueled races for the day.

Australians Tim Shuwalow and Cecilia Colling lead with 7 points while Emma and I are 3 points behind in 3rd.

Great day for the Aussie contingent!!!

Qualifying into the Finals

A dreadful day on the water yesterday seeing us slip from 2nd to 12th in the qualification round but thankfully squeezing into the top 21 to gain a spot in the final 64.

2 races were held yesterday in 5-7knots and very patchy across the whole race course.

First race we finished 28th and in the second we broke our crossbar while trying to perform a 360.

Unable to finish the race we made the decision to retire and thankfully there was another boat on the water who was just training. They were nice enough to allow us to borrow theirs for the next race. But there was not to be another as the wind died out completely. Luck was to be on our side.

First day of finals today. Sun is shining. Still waiting for the thermal wind!!!!!!

Finally the breeze arrived

It was looking like another day without any racing as storm after storm rolled over the lake bringing with it some torrential rain. Until around 5pm a breeze came in from an easterly direction, giving us just enough time to do 2 races.

Reaching 20knots at times and fluctuating 30degrees, it proved to be a very challenging course.

We scored a 3rd and 5th  leaving us in 2nd overall which is enough to finish in the top 21 boats that will progress into the Gold Fleet.

This morning the sun is out and not a cloud in the sky. Hope the thermal breeze will fill in through the afternoon.

6th Place in Spinaker Cup

 

All but 2 races were held in the Spinaker Cup event due to lack of wind on the first day and  the risk of lightning on the second. Both races were held on the first day with a light breeze from the south around 4-8 knots.

Yesterday as the odd thunderstorm came across the mountains and over the lake it was deemed too dangerous by the race comittee for us to sail due to the risk of lightning and strong wind. But it was not to be. As the afternoon progressed the sun showed its face and a sailable wind filled across the lake at a strength of 10-12knots.

Fellow Aussie Tim Shuwalow sailed 2 consistent races to take 1st place in the series.

Qualifying will start today. Everyone is waiting for these much anticapated thermal breezes which was to be expected. Hopefully today will be the day.
